I'm here in Tulsa OK for the ABA Grands, actually here because on wed. afternoon I was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Definitely honored to get such an award and had a good time at the ceremony. Since I was here I figured I had to race, but it's been a long time since I raced the 20". I was feeling pretty sketchy the first day of practice until about the last 10 minutes, when I started feeling more comfortable. It's amazing how fast the pros and a lot of the kids are these days. Impressive to say the least.
I signed up for Vet Pro and had a good first 3 moto's coming 2nd, 1st, 1st. There are some real fast guys in this class with guys like John Purse who has been National #1 pro many times and guys like the current points leader Keneath Fallen who has 12 wins this year. Dale Holmes is also a huge threat in this class, but didn't show up to make it harder... thanks Dale.
So far it is pretty good times racing, but like always when I come back for a race every 5 years or so, I don't miss the sitting around all day, nor do I understand the 7am first moto race time. Couldn't believe I had to be at the track by 6a for a 6:15a warm up practice. That alone makes it hard to want to do this much.
Regardless, I am happy to have made the trip and see for myself just how far bmx has come.
