cyclocross

Just did my first cyclocross race on my new ibis cross bike yesterday and it went great. Since I have very little experience doing these races and have not raced since last year I signed up in the 35+ 1,2,3 class, which from what people were telling me is almost as fast as the open 1,2,3 class. The 35+ class is 50min long, 10 shorter than the open class.

The race was in Irvine and the course was a lot of fun. A lot of grass sections, but also a ton of turns that made the technical aspect fun and good for me. There was only one section of barriers and I was the only one bunnyhopping them. I have to say that they barriers were taller than I expected, but luckily I was able to get over them without getting off my bike since I hate running.

The pace was quick and with 90+degree heat it was tough, but after about 3 or 4 laps I was building a gap on the group behind me which consisted of 3 riders. Every turn I would inch away more and everytime the barrier section came I would gain about 5 bike lengths immediately. By the end I had over 1 1/2 minutes on second place.

Definitely a good work out and with the heat I paid for my effort for the rest of the day.

Looking forward to hitting up a few more before the season is over.
