Day in the Dirt

This weekend was the annual Day in the Dirt moto race put on by Troy Lee and the stunt man association. As usual, the stars were out and the track was rough. Back at LACR after a one year break, the atmosphere was fun as always. It's the one race where most camp out for the weekend and partake in more than one race, usually doing at least one team race.

Dave Cullinan brought out the big Two Bros rig, Dave Castillo brought out a 35 foot Weekend Warrior motorhome and I brought out the little in comparison red Sportmobile. We set up our campground and the fun began.

Friday was the Troy Lee Happy Hour practice. Wtihin in laps of having hundreds of riders out the track it was rough as hell. After two sessions of practice we all knew that race day was going to be very difficult.

Castillo & Cully busted out big time on the bar b q and cooked up some great food for our entire crew which consisted of our wifes and a few more friends. After dinner the sabotage was on between Troy Lee and myself. With a little bit of alcohol help Troy started it off by pushing my moto off the stand to the ground. I retaliated by putting his on the ground. Again I found mine on the ground, so I stuffed his air box with a plastic bag and jammed an apple down his pipe. Again I found my moto on the ground with dirt kicked on it for a third time, so I turned his compression on his rear shock all the way in. If you know Troy he just laughs everything off, so I knew there was NO limit to what may happen, so I put my moto in Castillos garage. When we woke up the next morning our campground was TP'd.

Races were fun and the first one for me was a team race with Derek Natvig who is Mercedes Gonzales husband and is fast as shit. We ended up 6th, but should of had 5th but I stalled on the exchange one lap. In my individual race I endedu up racing Cully's rmz450 the last minute because he was not racing and I figured it would be better than racing my enduro. Well it turned out to be the right choice as I finished 1st in Vet. Intermediate. The track was rough just like we knew it would be and after 40 min of racing I was happy to be done. My hands were tore up and I was beat, so after I cleaned up and had dinner I decided to pack up and go home.

All in all it was good fun and I will be back next year for more.
