Ray's 3 Ride
I just got back from the second annual Rays 3 Ride. It's been a year already and the place has changed a little with some new additions, but for the most part the courses that we had competitions on were the same.
Friday was practice and this year I made it a point not to ride too much. I remember riding all day on Friday last year and come Sat. I was sore, so I kept it to about a 3 hour session. A little bit of the speed trials course, a little of the pump track, and a little bit on the jumps. They also added Park to the competition this year, but I have no park experience so I decided to skip that.
We started off Sat. with the speed trials competition. I had a pretty good first run with the fastest time, so I opted not to do my second run, feeling confident that nobody would beat my first run time. Kirt Vories finished 2nd, JD Swanguen 3rd, and I think Jeff Lenowski was 4th.
Next was the pump track comp. I ended up qualifying first with JD, who is only 17 years old finishing second, but beating me on one side. In the final it came down to JD and I. He beat me on the first run and I beat him on the second run, but the difference was .2 seconds in favor of JD to take the win. He was riding really well and everyone was happy for him, including me.
So going into Sunday I knew I had to do pretty good in the jump comp if I wanted to stay top 3 for the overall. While everyone was competing in the park event, I was practicing into the foam pit. JD finished 2nd in park and secured the overall win, but I was banking on a decent finish in the jump comp to pull of a 3rd.
With Kyle and Cam as my coaches I pulled off some what I thought were pretty good runs. Run 1--Big extended Can Can over the big box, table over hip, back flip over small box, 360 over last small box. Run 2-- Suicide No hander over big box, then the same over the next two boxes. Run 3-- Big 360 over big box, back flip over small box, 360 over small box. I was stoked with my runs and thought I should have been somewhere around 10th, but the judges scored me 18th. Oh judged events! I have always hated judged events and I'm glad I don't have to rely on judges to get the finishes I deserve. Anyways, that put me in a tie for 5th, but since I didn't do the park event I was given 6th.
All in all the event was fun and I was happy with my performance.
Thanks Ray for the great event!
And Congrats JD on the Win!!!
