Mexico City
This past weekend was spent in Mexico City. Oakley Mexico paid for me to come out to do some shop visits, go to a local 4x event just to hang out, and to represent Oakley at the Redbull Metro race.
I got in on a Friday, got picked up by the Oakley Mexico crew and checked out the city a bit.
On Sat. we had a busy schedule. First we went out of the city to this local 4x race. It was good to see that they have a mtb park and some good intrest in mountain biking there in Mexico City. The course was definitely a lot better than I expected to see. They had some OK jumps and turns and it was fun just to do some laps with the locals.
After the track we had a killer lunch and then went to the mall to a Oakley store for an autograph signing. There was a good turn out there and we went through all the poster I brought.
The race was to start at 12:30 in the morning, but that did not happen, as did many things not happen that were suppose to for the race. Originally I thought it was going to be a dual slalom type format, but it ended up being more like the Jeep races, except you only got one run to advance. We started on a bmx type gate, went down seperate escalators and then came in to one course. I won't get too much into it, but nothing was like it was suppose to be for the race and it was very un-organized.
At 4:30am the event finally was over and Gee Atherton I guess you could say won. The reason I say it like that is because I was winning and he took me out so bad even his brother Dan was like, "man, you have not had too good of luck with being taken out this year". He hit me so hard, straight T-boning me that it was like I got blind sided. I didn't even see him until we were both crashing. My front wheel was so bent it would not spin, so basically Gee got up and just rolled down the rest of the course.
Pretty amazing that he would pulll a move like that, especially in an event like this. I guess I will have to add Gee to my hit list of people that have one coming to them from me. It's not a good list to be on, because when and if I get the chance, there is going to be some damage done. Marossi, and Tsugg are also on this list. The lucky thing for these guys is that 99% of the time they are behind me, making it hard for me make them pay. Keep up the dirty riding you losers! If you can't make a good move, then take the lose like a man, don't be a bitch and try these kamikazi moves.
